Gabion


Gabion is derived from Italian language meaning large cage. It is also known as stone filled basket. It is a welded wire basket or box filled with materials such as stone used for various civil purposes. Gabion is made from 3 consecutive woven twist of wires.

Also gabion baskets can be placed next to one another and shape big structures. Given that gabion is multi-purpose, it needs to be investigated and calculated in terms of behavior, flexibility, strength, design and prior to use.

Application and Uses

• Due to its high resistance, it is used as fencing and protection in many areas. • Gabion is resistant against water pressure and as a result is used in waterways bed and linings, breakwaters, pipe covers as anti- corrosion. • Gabion is used in road building • Gabion is used in construction as reinforcement of unstable structures and stone walls. • Today, gabion is used in the production of vase and stone decoration. • Gabion is used as stone stabilization and retaining walls.

Technical Specifications

• Wire type: hot-dipped galvanized according to galvanized wire specifications. • Wire diameter: can be produced from 2 to 4 mm, the standard diameter is 3 mm. • Hole size: gabion holes are hexagonal and are produced in 5×6, 6×8, 8×8, 8×10 (standard sizes) and 10×12 only in large quantities. • In our factory gabion is made with hole size of 5×6 mm which is one of a kind, it is also known as gabion mattress which is used for waterways and river way linings. • Gabion size: gabion is primarily woven as rolls of 1 to 3 meters and then in the factory or on site is cut into different lengths of sheets (mainly 1 to 4 meters) and then turned into boxes of different dimensions 1×1×1 or 1×1×1.5 or 1×1×2 or 1×1×3 and is finally filled with stone materials. • Gabion net is also supplied with PVC coating.
